Time to let Ginger Pele go
I do love Ginge, he does his best and that is all we ask for.

Most fans call him so overrated but I am just going to point out how many points he costs us ...

Swansea (A) 2012 3-0 scuffing the ball allowing Swansea to go 2-0 up.

Reading (A) 2012 1-0 Passing the ball back to goal but going straight to their striker allow Pogbergriak to score.

Tottenham (H) Last season, two silly yellow cards getting himself sent off which cost us

Man City (A) Last season, ridiculous own goal.

Astra (H) This season, Silly sending off, costing us the whole tie.

He makes far too many errors. Despite how solid he can be.

My order of Centre Backs is:

1.Winston Reid
2.James Tomkins
3.Angelo Ogbonna
4.James Collins
5.Oxford/Burke/Henry

We've got way for one of the youngsters to progress most likely Oxford. Collins is getting on a bit now also.

Who disagrees and why? Because people forget how many times Collins' costs us a

Think he is pretty poor and would prefer Burke to be fourth choice.

However i'd be ok for him to see his contract out as long as he doesn't get picked in front of the other 4/5

Re: Time to let Ginger Pele go
He's probably saved us a few points along the way too.

He's too slow now and too rash, but he has a great head and more often than not is in the right position.

If a high ball is coming in to our box, Id want Ginger Pele in there..

Ginger Pele? That's Jack Colback. Got to get him in before we let him go!

I quite like Collins but with Burke and Henry around I think we can afford to let him go.

Time to let go ?

Do me a favour......was our best CB for long spells last season.

Let Burke/Henry go out on loan to play each week and let the 4 Centre Backs compete for the first 11

That scenario benefits all the most long term

Re: Time to let Ginger Pele go
It'd put too much pressure on the youngsters for mine. Two injuries and they'd be forced to assume the sort of responsibility that they might not be ready to take on.

Re: Time to let Ginger Pele go
Collins had some outstanding games last season and throws his body in front of anything and everything. The one thing that does my head in with him is his love of hoofing it upfield but that will probably change under Bilic.

Plenty of others I'd like to see moved on before him.

Re: Time to let Ginger Pele go
I'd keep him this season, but I'm hoping he doesn't have to play much, to be honest.

I'd out him next summer.

Re: Time to let Ginger Pele go
The reason he makes last-ditch challenges is because he was out of position in the first place. He's lost another yard of pace this season seemingly and I would get rid as soon as possible to allow for further opportunities to our young CBs.

Would rather others leave before him. I doubt he is on big wages either.

Re: Time to let Ginger Pele go
Keep him. Bloody good defender and charachter to have in the squad. And I noticed he hoofed it a lot less since Bilic arrived.

I suppose he's only got a year or two left on his contract.

Really? Or he has to get there at the last minute because somebody else is not doing their job.

For me, I'd keep him this season.

Re: Time to let Ginger Pele go
He's our 4th choice Centre back and is a good player. When did we last have some strength in depth?

I imagine he'd be a positive influence on the training ground too

El Scorchio 1:14 Wed Aug 19
Re: Time to let Ginger Pele go
He's made mistakes. All centre backs do.

He's been a very solid player for us in both spells at the club, and on a good day he's had the likes of Suarez in his pocket. Also a good alternative to Reid and Tomkins when you need a bruiser with authority and aerial ability.

As long as he's happy to sit on the bench for us, he's an OUTSTANDING 4th choice defender and the least of our problems. Seems like a good bloke as well, by all accounts.

El Scorchio 1:16 Wed Aug 19
Re: Time to let Ginger Pele go
Also, many people don't seem to grasp the need for a squad. Just because someone isn't first choice you don't automatically try and move them on. You need strength in depth, or we end up playing 4 full backs in defence when a couple of players get injured. If we release Collins, we only have to go and buy someone else.

Spot on

People need to understand that players seemingly happy at the club though they dont necessarily play eg...Ginge, JOB etc are integral members of any premier league squad

Re: Time to let Ginger Pele go
The amount people on this site who can't grasp the notion of having a squad baffles me. As soon as we sign someone there is always a thread on here saying we should sell someone.

If Collins wants to stay then he should. Great backup

spot on - he is a poor footballer

Mr Polite 1:35 Wed Aug 19

Technically he isn't the best and his distribution looks to be improving which was needed

But as a defender at times he is top notch

Vs Aguero at home last season stands out

Man City (A) Last season, ridiculous own goal. - That was pure bad luck FFS

Astra (H) This season, Silly sending off, costing us the whole tie. - Shit refereeing causing cost us that game.

the others were mistakes though. he is a good defender and people bring shit from over 3 years ago to beat him with
